Episode 18 - The Club House

The rest of the team headed to their beloved club house. I was tradition that the opposing team join them but the Falcons made a hasty retreat. The Cat's jeered as the away team pulled out of the car park, fingers raised in salute out of their car windows.
The grrls ordered their well earned drinks and sat in front of the wide screen television to catch the afternoon game of AFL football. Jules dribbled most of her beer over her swollen lip and decided to use a straw.
Jez took Midge aside.
'So, tell me grrl. Did you take Chloe's stuff?' She knew there was no love lost between the two.
Midge shook her head,
'Nup, wasn't me. But you know what she's like, Jez. Just about every local dyke is either in love with her or hate her or both. It could have been anyone. I'm putting my money on a Falcon's supporter.' She started to giggle, 'Did you check her out leaving in those boots? Gawd that was funny.'
Jez looked at her sternly. She didn't like any animosity in the team but she had to turn her head so as Midge couldn't see her wry grin. Chloe was far from her favorite person too, but she was the best player they had and Jez took her soccer seriously.
'There's gonna be trouble over today, Midge.' she said regretfully to her vice-captain. 'That ref was pretty pissed.'
Midge agreed, nodding. The Cats where still on probation from another incident last season, an all in brawl in the semi final. A few of their players had been suspended from playing in the Final and it had cost them the Cup.
'Oh well,' Midge declared, raising her glass, 'Tomorrow is another day.' Jez agreed and toasted with her.
Lee was sitting away from the rest of the team, still embarrassed. She hadn't had a seizure in weeks and this was the first time it had hit her in front of such a large crowd. Jules came over and sat beside her;
'How are ya, grrlfriend?' she asked.
'Fine,' Lee grumbled.
'Well you must be,' Jules said. 'you're still as grumpy as ever.' Lee smiled a little. Jules broached on the subject of Helen.
'She won't have any problems with the money. You'll really like her Lee. She's wonderful.' Jules promised.
Lee sighed. She couldn't be bothered keeping up her tough bitch facade,
'So what does she do for a living?' she asked. Jules went red and racked her brain for an answer.
'She's in the entertainment industry.' she semi-lied. 'She's getting a work visa so she can do some bar work while she's over here.'
'Speaking of work, have you been looking?' Lee asked her squarely.
'Yeah, I have. I looked into a few things yesterday.' she lied. She sucked the last of her beer through her straw and checked her pockets. They were empty. She considered bludging off Lee and decided she would be treading a fine line so went over to Midge and Jez to see if they would buy her a beer.
Midge saw her coming with her empty glass and immediately dug into her pocket. She threw her a fiver and told her to go buy the three of them a round. Jules brightened up and skipped over to the bar. She came back with three frothing glasses of ale.
'Hows your mouth?' Jez asked, watching in amazement as Jules sucked on her beer. Jules touched her lip tentatively.
'Bit sore but I'll live. What a goal, eh?' she announced cheerfully. The other two rolled their eyes.
The game of the day finished and the grrls worked out where the evening's merriment was going to take place. As usual, Jez offered her apartment and equally as usual, Jez would procure most of the alcohol. The baby dykes knew she was an easy touch and would always be able to rock up to her place empty handed and pass out in her living room, drunk as skunks.
Jez liked having the younguns around, but she was feeling her age lately. It worried her that she could not drink a case of beer anymore and still be standing. But she still tried to keep up with the grrls and had been carried to bed a few times lately.
She mused that maybe she should just give it up and grow old gracefully. She shuddered and dismissed the notion.
The Cat's got in their cars and drove back to Carlisle Street in a procession, singing their club anthem.
