Episode 25 - Bible Basher

Oh shit! Midge thought. She whirled around and looked at Sara.
Sara raised an eyebrow,
'Arent you going to answer it?' she asked.
'Nah, it's just a bible basher. One of those door to door morons selling god like Avon.' Midge sat down on the sofa while Sara looked at the door, which was being pounded on. She heard an irate voice yelling from behind it.
'I know your in there, open up!!!' Laura screamed.
'Gee, they are persistent around here.' Sara commented. Midge laughed nervously and agreed.
Eventually, Laura left. Midge ran to the window and peeked out. She saw her car pulling out of the driveway. She let out a mental sigh.
She sat back down on the sofa, a little closer to Sara, who didn't seem to mind.
Well, at least she isn't screaming 'rape', Midge thought.
They talked about their jobs and told each other where they grew up. They laughed about the rumble at the soccer ground and Midge told Sara how she had dragged off the grrl that had been throttling her. Sara felt herself relaxing and thinking that she her initial impression of Midge, that of a grotesque pervert, was completely unfounded.
Midge was catching sideways glances at Sara when she thought she wouldn't notice. She noted every feature, that to her, were perfect. She even found the tiny chip in Sara's front tooth endearing.
'Would you like a coffee...or a wine?' Midge offered, hoping she would accept the alcohol. She needed all the help she could get.
'I should get going,' Sara said, lifting herself off the sofa. 'I have a big day tomorrow.'
'Oh, yeah.' Midge said regretfully.
'Maybe another time?' Sara asked shyly, surprised that she was even suggesting it. Midge brightened up.
'Sure, whenever you like. I'm on day shift this week so my evenings are free except for Thursday when we have soccer practice. Oh, and I promised Nan I'd take her to bingo on Wednesday, but other than that I'm available.' Midge knew she was babbling and sounding desperate. She cursed herself.
'Thanks for dinner. Next time it's my treat.'
Midge beamed,
'Yeah, no problem. That would be great. I'm glad you came over, Sara.'
Sara shuffled her feet uncomfortably on the carpet. Midge thought that she had pushed things a bit too far for her high strung guest and opened the door for her. Midge had an almost irresistible urge to kiss her there in the door way but she knew she would only get a slap and lose all hope of any kind of a relationship with Sara; friendship or otherwise.
They said their goodbye's and Midge watched her stroll down the walkway, her ponytail bobbing up and down.
'Don't let the bible bashers get ya!' Midge called out. Sara looked over her shoulder and smiled back at her. In Midge's mind, that image of Sara's natural beauty and gorgeous smile would never leave her. Her heart did another backflip. She stepped back into her apartment so Sara wouldn't see the goofy, lovesick grin she wore on her face. She threw herself on the sofa, stuffed a cushion in her face, the one that Sara happened to be sitting on. She squealed, kicking her legs up and down.
She was the happiest dyke on earth.
