Episode 28 - A Usual Week
Lee did all her errands, even going as far as phoning Helen because she couldn't work out the computer stuff. She spoke to her briefly and started to realise why Jules was infatuated with her. Helen's voice was husky and inviting and after her initial shock as to the predicament that Jules was in, she fell easily into a friendly conversation with Lee.
She dropped Jules' things off at the hospital and took Nan with her for a visit. Jules was a bit cranky and more than a little worried. It was going to be a waiting game for them all. The specialist had taken a peek at her wounded eyes and could tell her no more until they started to heal. The acid burns on her face were superficial and wouldn't scar. Her cheeks had minor blistering and were very red. Her swollen lip from the soccer game didn't add to her appearance.
Midge was still on tender hooks about Laura and Sara. She made sure her security chain was slipped on and she thought of nothing other than Sara for the rest of the night. She slept soundly, having beautiful dreams of her and Sara swimming through crystal blue pools of water and making love under waterfalls. The alarm woke her abruptly. She tried to recall the dream by squeazing her eyes shut but it was no use. She regretfully dragged herself out of bed for another days work. She hoped she would run into Sara on her way out but was disappointed.
Sara hadn't slept much. She was too scared she would sleep through the alarm. She arose later than Midge, who had a much earlier start than she. She dressed simply in a smart skirt and blouse with a navy blaser. She wore little makeup, not wanting to look like a slut on her first day. She hated the stuff anyway. She commuted into the city on a bustling train full of strangers cranky to be returning to work after the weekend. Her first day went relatively smoothly except for a junior clerk rubbing himself up against her in the copying room. She ate lunch by herself while going over contracts.
Jez was back driving her cabs. She had a teenager try to evade a fare and she chased after her, only to pull up after a few blocks huffing and puffing and reaching for her asthma pump. She wanted her old job back at the foundry. She was sick of being broke. She was sick of cleaning up vomit and semen in the back of her cab and she was sick of old grandma's calling her 'mister'.
Chloe was just jocking it up as she usually did, oblivious to the stranger that followed her every move. She purchased a new pair of running shoes and flirted with the sales clerk and she gave her a discount.
All in all it was a pretty average week in Carlisle Street. Each grrl went about her routine and all were about to be shattered to the core on Friday afternoon.
