Episode 33 - Tea and Crumpet
Lee made tea and waited for Helen to finish in the bathroom. Her emotions ran high. She felt like a complete arsehole lusting after Jules' grrlfriend. She lazily stirred the liquid in the cup and contemplated her predicament. She promised herself that she would control her emotions. She was supposed to be the ice queen and this pubescent love sickness was completely out of character for her. From now on she would treat Helen as she would any other person; with casual indifference.
Helen emerged from the bathroom, wrapped in a towel and nothing else. Lee dropped the spoon. Tendrils of steam surrounded her like a halo and Lee again thought of angels. Helen smiled and trotted into Jules' bedroom, leaving small puddles of water behind her on the floor. Usually this would annoy the hell out of Lee and she had chastised Jules many times about it, but now she thought it was cute. She groaned and banged her head rhythmically on the kitchen bench.
Helen came out in her pyjamas. It was agreed that she get a few hours sleep before they went to the hospital. They drank their tea and Helen chatted about the flight, the horrid food and the delays. She also talked about England and how she had always wanted to come to Australia. She asked questions about Jules and Lee answered them as diplomatically as she could without completely lying. Helen yawned and excused herself as she went for a nap. Lee told her she would wake her around 1pm and they would go to the hospital to witness Jules having her bandages removed.
Lee pottered around the house as quietly as she could. She had some errands to run but didn't want to leave the house in case Helen awoke early. She watched some day time TV and wondered what housewives saw in it. She was amazed at the amount of white trash who were going out with transsexual lesbians who were having affairs with their cousins. She was of the opinion that Jerry Springer sucked.
She lightly tapped on Jules' door at 1pm and poked her head in. Helen was still fast asleep, her blankets kicked off and more than a little bit of cleavage exposed. Lee shut the door...after about 5 minutes of voyeurism. She knocked again, this time louder and she heard Helen stir. Helen mumbled that she would be out in a minute.
She appeared dressed casually in jeans and a white shirt knotted around her midriff and leather sandals. Lee noticed her toenails were painted with little smiley faces and she went all gooey. She usually felt nothing but disdain for femmes and Helen was the femme of all femmes. She made Michelle Pfeiffer seem butch.
Lee served up a light lunch and Helen ate ravenously. She said she felt much better and confessed that she was really nervous about finally meeting Jules. Lee remained impassive. They got in the car and made their way to the hospital.
Lee and Helen entered Jules' room. She was sitting up while her doctor prepared to remove the bandages.
Lee was about to announce their arrival when Helen put a finger to her lips, quieting her. She tip-toed to the side of the bed and gently placed her hand on Jules'.
'Hello, my love,' she purred into Jules' ear. Jules jumped and threw her arms about Helen, knocking the tray of instruments that were on the side table.
'Oh my god, I didn't think you would make it.' she cried. Helen patted her back,
'Of course I'm here, honey. I want to be the first thing you see.'
Lee refrained from making gagging noises and sticking her fingers down her throat.
The doctor separated Jules and Helen and began the process of carefully removing the gauze. She swabbed the salve from Jules' lashes and lids, telling her to keep her eyes closed. Finally she stood back and dimmed the lights.
'Ok, Jules. Slowly open your eyes.' she instructed. Helen held her hand as she watched as Jules' lids slowly parted. She blinked.
'What do you see, my love?' Helen asked nervously. Jules turned her face towards the sound of Helen's voice.
'Nothing!!!' Jules shrieked, 'I see nothing!!!'
