Episode 38 - Super Gran
The tactical response group arrived in a wave of sirens. Men, dressing in padded gear as they jumped out of vans, rushed towards the pool as Midge gave them details. They were primed for action after many hours of training in preparation for the Sydney Olympic games.
Paulie treaded water and wondered what the hell was going on. A cop yelled at him through the bull horn to quickly get out of the pool. Paulie started shrieking and floundered to the pool's edge. A padded man grabbed his small frame and lifted him out of the water, sending him packing to behind a barricade that the squad was erecting.
By this time all the tenants were ushered out of the building to a safe distance. Everyone stood watching the circus, oblivious to the drama unfolding around the corner...except for Nan, who had stormed away in her floral apron with a determined look in her eye.
She had observed the black sedan cruising by many times and wondered what business the driver had around here. She had seen Olivia lingering around various doorways, only to scamper away when she was disturbed. Nan had taken it upon herself to keep a watchful eye on this ominous stranger.
Nan saw a lot more than most people gave her credit for. She may not be able to read her racing guide lately but her long distance eyesight was certainly in good shape. She had pointed the strange car out to that nice young constable chap who was marshalling the tenants but he had disregarded her as a nosy busy body.
Nan shuffled up the street, deciding she would have to take matters into her own hands. She hugged the secateurs in her apron pocket close to her arthritic thigh and approached Chloe and Olivia, unaware of the knife she held.
