Episode 43 - Dr Laura's Cleavage

While Helen and Lee were bumping uglies, Jules lay back in her bed thinking about her internet grrlfriend. Helen was a stunner, as she already knew, but Jules just didn’t get the sparks and fireworks that she expected when they had finally met face to face. Her doctor gave her more of a buzz.
Jules conceded that Helen was sweet and caring but they just didn’t have that chemistry there. The whole time Helen was talking to her as she lay in her hospital bed, Jules felt awkward and uncomfortable. Especially when Helen tried to make her use the bed pan when she was perfectly capable of walking to the toilet. She guessed that it was one thing that the Net couldn’t provide; that animal spark that attracts one to another. The computer couldn’t replicate pheromones.
She hoped that things would improve with time. She didn’t want to be stuck with Helen for three months and not even like her. The woman had travelled half way across the world to be with her and Jules didn’t want to hurt her.
She began to worry of the consequences. Jules was a devil-may-care character and usually dumb-lucked her way out of uncomfortable situations. Responsibility wasn’t her forté and it had never occurred to her that her own actions may cause harm to others. Jules was still running blind in an adult world. As a kid she had been a bit of a dork and found it hard to fit in. She was the constant brunt of jokes in school and no matter how cheery and amiable she was, no one seemed to want her in her crowd. She was one of those kids that always ran along behind the pack, trying to catch up, desperate to be accepted and wanting to fit in.
Then she discovered the internet and her computer became her best friend. She would sit back watching screens scroll at the text that would soon become her family and friends. Within weeks of logging on she had dozens of online friends. They accepted her regardless of social status, money and physical appearance. At this moment she was cursing her computer and the predicament it had gotten her in with Helen.
Three months was a long time to spend with someone, especially when they were spending that time in your room and house. She liked her but she didn’t know if she liked her.
She began to wish she could stay in hospital a little while longer before she had to go about wooing Helen. Besides, she wanted to charm Doctor Laura a little bit more. She had popped back after Lee and Helen had left when she finished her rounds. She was in her civvy gear with a kick arse lap top under her arm.
Doctor Laura examined Jules’ eyes. While she was leaning over, Jules took the opportunity to check out her cleavage. The physician had asked if the light was bothering her.
‘No,’ Jules replied.
‘Then why do you keep staring away from my pen light?’ Doctor Laura asked.
Jules just went red and tried to concentrate on the beam rather than the cleavage.
