Episode 56 - Drowning Sorrows
Sara had finally gotten up the nerve to cope with the world. Her head still throbbed and she’d spent most of the day sleeping. She had called a carpet cleaning company and organised to have Chloe’s apartment refreshed. Sara summoned up the nerve to face her.
She stepped out into the bright sunlight and winced. She saw Jules and Midge standing on the steps out front of her apartment. Jules looked as if she’d seen a two headed cow. Sara followed Jules’ amazed gaze and saw Lee kissing Helen.
Sara started to wonder if any of these women had stable relationships. She shook her head and staggered to Chloe’s apartment, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
Chloe answered the door and stared at Sara coolly,
‘Yes?’ she said, her arms folded. Sara started to shake,
‘I just wanted to tell you that I’ve organised someone to come and clean up the...well...you know. And to apologise again.’
Chloe just shrugged and didn’t respond. Sara was completly humiliated and left her with the cleaners details and left before she burst into tears.
Chloe watched her scurry off without a hint of guilt. She looked out into the street and saw what looked like Lee snogging a tall blonde. She went out onto the landing for a better view. She hadn’t yet had the pleasure of meeting Helen and wondered who she was, and more importantly, what was Lee doing with her. Chloe had know Lee for a while and hadn’t seen her so much as look at another grrl.
Lee hugged Helen and over her shoulder she saw Chloe staring at them. She raised a finger. Chloe returned the gesture and stalked back into her apartment.
‘Is this happening?’ Jules shrieked at Midge, pointing at Lee and Helen.
‘Yes, my dear, I think it is and it’s called poetic justice,’ Midge replied, ‘You wanna go drown your sorrows at the pub?’
‘You payin’?’ Jules asked suspiciously,
‘Yep, or at least until you find some other sucker.’
Jules seemed to brighten up,
‘Well let’s go grrl!’ She linked her arm in Midge’s and led her towards the Prince of Wales Hotel.
