Episode 58 - Sarongs and Sunscreen
Chloe had tried to introduce herself to Helen several times but once Lee had seen her coming she led her grrlfriend off in the other direction in a hurry. Chloe waited until she had her day off and when Lee went to work, she zero’d in on their apartment.
She knocked on the door and was relieved that Helen answered. She had a fair idea that Jules would still be in bed and was right.
‘Hi. Is Lee home?’ she said, knowing full well she wasn’t.
‘No, I’m sorry you just missed her. She’s working,’ Helen answered, ‘Can I take a message?’
Chloe looked Helen up and down. She was a striking woman. It was beyond Chloe how Lee had landed her. Chloe was an imposing height but Helen stood over her with a few inches to spare.
‘No, it’s ok, nothing important. I don’t think we’ve been introduced though. I’m Chloe,’ she held out her hand and smiled her best smile. Helen’s face showed a flicker of recognition. Lee had told her about Chloe, and not in too many kind words either. She shook her hand and debated on whether or not to invite her in. She wasn’t sure if Lee would appreciate it. Instead Helen just smiled and said it was a pleasure meeting her. They stood awkwardly in the doorway waiting for the other to say something. Eventually Chloe asked what she was up to for the day.
‘Nothing,’ Helen responded, ‘I don’t have a car and don’t fancy the public transport system so I thought I’d spend the day at home.’
Chloe leapt at the opertunity,
‘Hey, I have the day off and was going to go for a drive to the beach. You’re welcome to come along if you like.’
Since Lee had been back at work, Helen had been spending a bit of time at home and Jules hadn’t been much of a pleasure to hang around with. Midge had taken her for a few drives but she was back at work as well so she was a bit alone at the moment. She didn't think it could hurt so she agreed.
Chloe told her she’d be back in an hour after she did some weights and had some breakfast.
Helen organised herself and started to doubt whether or not she should have taken Chloe up on the offer. Lee had in no uncertain terms warned her of Chloe’s predatory nature and she didn’t want to rock the boat. She considered waking Jules and asking her opinion. The grumbling snores that emanated from her room changed her mind though. Her mood had progressively gotten worse through the week and Helen didn’t want to add to it.
She decided just to give in and enjoy herself. She put a small spray can of mace in her handbag just in case. If what Lee had told her of Chloe was true, it was better to be safe than sorry. She wrapped a sarong around her waist over her bathing suit, a modest full piece designed for speed rather than impression. From what she had heard she didn't trust Chloe around a bikini.
Chloe came around and they made their way to her car. Chloe opened the door for Helen and watched her slide into the car seat, exposing a fair bit of her long leg and thigh through her sarong. Chloe shut the door and got in the drivers side, thinking that today would be a good day.
