Episode 7 - Jules and Nan

'What?' Sara demanded, wide eyed and mouth agape. The other began to chuckle.
'Just kidding. Gawd you shoulda seen your face, grrl. Thought you were gonna have a seizure. Talk about uptight,' she was still laughing. 'Follow me. The owner lives here and she has a spare.'
Sara let out a pent up sigh of relief. She considered the time, almost 1am, and looked worried.
'I don't think she'll be too impressed at this hour of the night.'
'Nah, Nan is up 'til all hours. One of those old grrls who sleep about 2 hours a night. She looks like it too.' She stuck out her hand. 'By the way, I'm Jules.'
Sara stopped rubbing her foot and shook her hand warily. She didn't like to be made a fool of.
'She's you're grandmother?' she asked.
'Nah, everyone just calls her Nan. But I guess she is just about everyone's adopted grandma. She's a great old duck,' Jules looked at Sara's foot. 'You gonna be able to walk?'
Sara took a few tentative steps and nodded. It was throbbing but she guessed nothing was broken. The words 'anger management' came to mind.
Sara followed her up the stairs to the second floor and to the last apartment, all the while listening to Jules tell her about the time she broke her foot at a computer swap meet.
'You sure this is going to be alright?' she said, worriedly.
'Yeah, sure.' she replied. 'The boi's are always locking themselves out. Nan's used to it.' She knocked on the door. It was opened almost immediately by a small old woman who looked just like Sara's gran, but with less facial hair. She smiled kindly at the two of them.
'Hey, Nan. Sorry to bother you but Sara has locked herself out.' Sara started to apologise for herself but Nan waved it off.
'No bother, dear. I was up anyway. Come on in while I look for it. You're the new grrl aren't you? I saw you moving in today and was going to come down and say hello but I got side tracked.' She ushered them inside and rummaged around in a desk. 'It's here somewhere.'
Sara looked around the apartment, sniffing the familiar old lady smell of lavender and moth balls. An obese cat came and rubbed itself against her leg. She bent to pat it and spotted an enourmous dildo sitting erect on the hall way floor. She stood bolt upright and her eyes bulged. Jules whispered behind her hand to Sara,
'She found it in the garden one morning. She thinks its a door stopper. What a hoot, eh?' Sara found herself grinning despite her initial shock.
'Here it is,' the old lady announced, and handed the key to Sara. She thanked her and again apologised. 'Oh, stop it dear. No trouble at all. Just make sure you return it tomorrow. I'm always getting keys cut for the lads. They say they'll bring them back but they rarely do.'
Sara promised she would and they said their goodbyes.
Once back at Sara's apartment, Jules asked if she would be OK. Sara nodded and thanked her.
'Cool bananas,' Jules said amiably. 'I got to get online. My missus will be wondering where the hell I am.'
'Online?' Sara asked.
'On the InterNet. You've never used it?' Sara shook her head. Apart from the geeks at school, no one from her home town was that technological. Jules asked if she wanted to come over to her flat and have a look. Sara declined so Jules gave her an open invitation to come over anytime to have a look, as long as it wasn't before midday. Sara said she might and they said goodnight to each other.
Sara let herself in and shut the door behind her, leaning against it, closing her eyes and sighing.
What a day!she thought. Sara decided that she was going to sleep for an eternity. She took another deep breath and psyched herself up for the long walk to her bedroom. She opened her eyes and saw an envelope at her feet. It had been slipped under the door. She bent and picked it up.
What now? she thought. She openened it and written simply in red block letters was:
STAY AWAY FROM CHLOE, BITCH!!!
